Farnsworth House

Plano, Illinois
Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, Architect

In typical Mies fashion, this 1500 square foot retreat house exemplifies the minimalist International Style of architecture. The house is supported by stilts as a precaution to periodic flooding from heavy rainstorms and a nearby stream.

This model was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York to be added to its permanent collection. Given the simplicity of its design, it was a fairly simple model to construct. The interior was fully detailed and visible from the large windows.
